Another successful edition of the Winter School of Programming and Design – coDEsign2020

The Winter School of Programming and Design – coDEsign2020 took place from February 3 through 9 and welcomed more than a thousand elementary and high school students. Once again, the classrooms and conference halls were full of curious students.

The CoDEsign school of programming and design is an annual event organized by the Information Technology School (ITS), the Information Technology High School (ITHS)
and the companies LINKgroup and Comtrade. The event is a perfect opportunity for the participants to learn about the latest IT trends, acquire knowledge and gain new skills.

The workshops and lectures at coDEsign are primarily intended for elementary and high school students who wish to learn the basics of programming, design, online marketing, website design and editing, and video game design, as well as for those who wish to expand their knowledge and learn about the latest IT trends.

Valuable IT skills

At the workshops, the students learned about website development, special effect modeling and simulation in the Maya program, and the principle behind GPS. In addition, they created their first professional photos which they later processed in Photoshop.
During a lecture on online store development, the high school students learned about one of the most popular content management systems, WordPress, in the context of e-trade. The attendees who plan to build a career in programming and web design learned about the basics of CSS and HTML. They also mastered the Visual Code test editor and learned how to execute CSS animation through examples.
At the video production workshop, the students were acquainted with the process of making a music video, from handling professional equipment and filming outdoors, to editing and post-production work. The students enjoyed the entire process of making and watching the video they created themselves.

For those interested in software development, ITS professor Goran Radić answered the following questions: Why is the SCRUM method so popular and what does Product Owner do? During this interesting presentation, he talked about innovative software development methods in order to familiarize future IT experts with this field.

What was particularly important to future graduates was a discussion on what they can expect on the final examinations, how to prepare for a career in IT, how to become leaders and whether this is the right choice for them.
The Winter School of Programming and Design – coDEsign2020 ended with an official award ceremony during which the attendees received certificates as proof of the valuable knowledge they will undoubtedly benefit from in the future.
